Before I moved to the area, I knew that Kingston-upon-Thames was known for its shopping. And in the last few years, it has gotten even better. And it's not just shopping. There are restaurants, cafes, as well as pubs, bars and a delightful theatre. There is so much that you could easily, and happily, do to spend a day in Kingston.
A few weeks ago, I took Moozles and Dubz to enjoy some of what Kingston has to offer. We started off in the Bentall Centre. It is an indoor mall housed in a gorgeous building. And it houses some of my favourite homeware shops (Zara, H&M and West Elm). We are currently renovating our house, and I have been spending a lot of time exploring the internet for gorgeous items for my home. But sometimes you just need to get to a shop and see things in real life.
While I need practical things like rugs and furniture, I spend a lot of time looking at cushions and plants. My children are not fans of shopping for homewares (go figure), so I bribed them with a visit to Waterstones. It is amazing how good my children can act when they have the chance to get a new book. We also popped into some kids' clothing shops as my children insist on constantly growing. Our favourites are H&M and Zara. If I had been on my own, I would have also visited & Other Stories and Oliver Bonas.
After working up an appetite on our shopping trip, we went for afternoon tea at the Hilton Doubletree. This was actually our first visit. I had never realized that there was a Hilton tucked away by the river, only a five minute walk from Bentalls. Although Moozles and Dubz found the sandwiches and some of the cakes to be a bit too grown-up, I really enjoyed the afternoon tea. Thankfully they both loved the hot chocolate.
After tea, we met up with Husband to watch Alice in Winterland at the Rose Theatre Kingston. We have watched quite a few family shows at the Rose, and they've all been wonderful. Husband and I are hoping to go soon to see one of their grown-up shows. It would make a fab outing for date night.
And that was our day in Kingston. I am looking forward to another visit soon. There is always more shopping to do, and more delicious food to be eaten.
We were invited for shopping at Bentalls, afternoon tea at the Hilton Doubletree and a show at the Rose Theatre - all for the purpose of this review. Opinions expressed are entirely my own.
