Our house is slowly coming together. I’m taking my time with the kids’ bedrooms and the living room, but the guest room is almost finished. I’m still waiting for the new desk and the shutters to arrive, but I couldn’t wait to show you how it looks. Ta-da! This might not mean too much until you see the before photos. But the difference is huge.
Have you ever seen such an unwelcoming guest room? Lilac walls, green carpet and a giant desk inherited from the previous owner. Plus there were water stains from years of the roof leaking (we got a new roof last May, thankfully). And how could I forget the broken door knob?! Once, Husband got stuck up there and had to call me to let him out. And the radiators didn’t work. That room got ridiculously cold during the winter.
But now the room is lovely and cosy. The walls are white and bright. The column radiator doesn’t take up much room, and keeps the room warm. We got rid of the old double bed, as we only ever have guests once every 1-2 months. We got the daybed from IKEA. It makes a nice sofa or single bed, and even pulls out to make a bigger-than-average double bed. We keep extra bedding for the entire house in the drawers underneath the bed.
The green shelf, from Made, was previously in the living room, and will soon hold Husband’s records. I love how Made have such quirky furniture. The slim wardrobes were from my old bedroom, and offer some extra storage for towels and clothes. I bought the faux zebra-skin rug from IKEA, after spotting it on a friend’s Instagram. When I was young, my parents had a real zebra-skin rug. I was a lonely child, and I would pretend the rug was magical and we would go on imaginary adventures. There’s something comforting about a zebra-skin rug in my own home.
Last, but not least, is our new canvas from Photowall. It’s called ‘The Vinyl Of My Life’, which is fitting as Husband loves his record player and vinyls. There is a huge choice of canvas prints and wallpaper, and you could even upload your own image. I’m now thinking I need another two as the wall looks a bit bare, what do you think? If you’re thinking about getting a canvas or wallpaper, the lovely folks from Photowall are offering my readers a 20% discount for the next 30 days (use CalifornianMumCampaign2018).
I was asked to review a piece of wall art for the purpose of a review. All opinions expressed are entirely my own.
