I Hate Gardening

Too Much Garden, Not Enough Gardening

When we bought our home two years ago, we were pleased at the size of the garden. It was small, but there was plenty of room for our family of four. There was paving at the front for a table, chairs and a barbecue. Some grass for the children to play, even room for a trampoline and a slide. And in the back, an ugly 1970s brick outbuilding which one day would become the man cave (one day, like way in the future, when the entire house and garden have been renovated).

But even a smallish garden can be a lot of work. Luckily we have a mature garden, so we can enjoy our plants, flowers and grapevine without worrying about killing everything off. But there is more of the garden than we know what to do with. Husband mows the grass, that’s the easy bit. Our problem is that we have so many plants and hedges, and we’re not sure what to trim. And we don’t even know what weeds look like, so we’re afraid to touch anything.

At the end of May, two wonderful gardeners from Fantastic Services came to sort out my garden. It rained half of the time, but they cut and mowed and trimmed. After two hours, and 11 bags of refuse, my garden looked unbelievably tidy. They even cut the grass that was growing between the paving. And it turned out that we had roses, which had been hidden behind loads of shrubs.

Booking a service through Fantastic Services is so easy, and they send you email and text confirmations. They even have an app, for booking their wide array of services. Some of their services include garden maintenance (for £45), a cleaner (from £12/hour) or petsitting (from £13/hour).

The lovely people at Fantastic Services have a fab offer for my readers. Just enter the code CaliMum to receive £10 off your first booking (valid until the 31st December 2015).

Granny’s Garden

This week I was in Leamington Spa with the kids, escaping the house renovations. My husbands’ parents have a roomy house and a gigantic garden. Add their attentive nature and some ice cream, and my children are in heaven.

On Wednesday, my daughter was feeling tired so we canceled the day’s plans and the kids spent most of the day in the garden. Moozles, who will be six next week, said she wanted to do some exercises to ‘be healthy’. So, I incorporated Simon Says and we had a super fun game where I got to sit in the sun while Moozles did star jumps, push-ups and twirled around. Dubz, who is 23 months old, was happy to potter about and drive his car.

That evening, we had a picnic dinner at the end of the garden (pic above, third and fourth pics). The kids got to eat and run around. After dinner, Moozles had a splash about in the hot tub with her granny (sixth pic). I know the kids had a fun day because they changed their outfits 2-4 times between them. Dirty clothes means happy kids.
