Fit By 40 – June Update

Fit by 40 - June Update

I have been on my healthy living/fitness regime for three and a half months now. And I have to admit that I am struggling. This past month has been difficult. Rather than having one day off at the weekend, I have been having two or three days off. And I took about two weeks off during the May half-term. But despite my love of sugar and carbs, I have continued going to the gym two or three times a week so the month hasn’t gone too badly.

My last weigh-in was last week on Wednesday. At that time I had lost four pounds for the month, bringing my weight loss grand total to 22 pounds. Last month I was disappointed by my four-pound loss. But this month I am not surprised by the small loss as I don’t think my body could continue with the half stone losses each month.

And although my clothes have been fitting better (and I have been able to wear some old clothes), I don’t think I look like I have lost any weight. Obviously it is tough to notice when you have a lot of weight to lose. But I feel like this is effecting my motivation.

This week we are on holiday, so I have been off the diet since last Friday. But I hope to return to my healthy living regime on Sunday. And I am hoping to reduce my cheat days back to once a week. I have seven weeks remaining until my 40th birthday and still have over a stone to lose. Yikes! If you have any advice, I would love to hear it.

  1. Have you been taking other measurements? I must admit I never do and go totally off what I see on the scales, but you might get a boost from finding out that, actually, you are losing cms and inches even if you don’t feel like it? Every little boost helps! x

  2. Keep going Elfa and don’t give up! Even small changes will make a big difference over time, and fast forward several months and you will really see a change. If I’m being honest I find that if I want to feel less bloated and ‘heavy’ and lose weight fast, I make sure I veer on the lower-carb side of things, it might not be what you want to hear but it really does work! I’ll have yoghurt, fruit and almonds for breakfast, maybe poached eggs on wholemeal toast for lunch and then a big salad with fish/meat for dinner. I know it works as at the moment I’ve been eating what i want (bad move in the run up to your wedding!) and I’ve put on several pounds since Jan. Need to take my own advice! Keep going lovely, and we’ll be rooting for you xx

    1. Thanks Becky. I do feel like carbs are a gateway for me. Once I have some toast, all I can think about it cake and pasta. Ugh. But if I eat eggs for breakfast, I’m okay to have a salad for lunch and some meat/fish and veg for dinner. It is just so hard when I feel like I am constantly tempted at events. I have no willpower! 🙁

  3. It’s hard I know, but please do not give up. It is not going to happen over night, and it’s always much easier lose the extra pounds at the beginning, then it slows down. I agree that taking measurements might help, you might be surprised how much your body is changing! Well done for going to the gym. Keep it up! #FitnessTuesday

  4. Water! The best tip I can give – drink lots of it, the changes are remarkable when you only drink water. You do look fantastic and that smile says it all! 🙂
Well done on your weight loss so far, checking your measurements as well as the scales will definitely surprise you! Hope you are having a lovely week! Thank you for linking up with #WeightLossWednesday! Sim xx
