I took the Great British Home Quiz and it determined that my home style was Quirky Cool. I was quite pleased with this. I love mixing vintage and contemporary, and love light, airy spaces and vibrant accessories. We are decorating our house in a mid-century modern style so I am trying to keep things simple and bright, but with a retro feel.
The renovations on our first-floor bathroom finished two days ago. I will wait a few seconds for you to ‘ooh’ and ‘ahh’. We bought our 1890s terraced house last year and have been slowly fixing one room at a time. The first-floor bathroom did not have a bathtub, and we wondered if we could even get one to fit. Although the bathroom on the second floor has a bathtub, it was inconvenient to go up and down the stairs with two kids (one a baby then toddler).
BEFORE
The previous owners renovated the house in the 1970s, which isn’t the decade known for the best style, plus they were really big into pine. The first-floor bathroom is small, but made smaller with all of the boxing. We have, amazingly, managed to squeeze in a normal size bathtub, and now have a nice family bathroom. I got a funky bathmat but still need to find a simple shelf, a mid-century mirror (similar to what we have in our hallway) and a cool piece of art. This means I will be hitting some charity and second-hand shops to finish the look.

Ooh I love the green tiles! Our bathroom is being fitted this week but we didn’t really put any thought or artistic eye into what we chose – we have gone boringly ‘hotel’ style with no real colour or anything. Seeing your choices I wish I had been more creative! Interior design is definitely not our forte or priority – my husband is not the kind of person who is happy to just let me choose whatever I want either and he’s not a creative type either. We tend to just do whatever’s easiest. I do dream about living on my own and having creative control and letting my imagination run wild though! X
I love the green tiles so much! I too like to mix styles up a bit and got quirky cool in the quiz. Commenting for myself @kateonthinice and on behalf of BritMums and thanking you for taking part.
Well, I had decided I would have some green in every room to tie everything together. The builders were able to do our bathroom sooner than we expected so I didn’t have time to properly think everything out. We went and bought plain tiles, then I changed my mind at the last minute and went online and found those. They ended up being half the price as the plain ones we got from topps, which kept Husband from killing me. I got inspiration from this website: http://www.housetohome.co.uk/bathroom. Hope your bath renovation goes well! xx
Thanks Kate! I did worry about going overboard on the green. 🙂
it looks lovely, im jealous now, i just hate ours its all pink and old-fashioned, but we cant do much about it as renting, but one day i hope we will have a house of our dreams
Oooh – I love it, and quirky cool is a perfect description. I could really to with revamping our bathroom so will see what my style is 🙂
Your bathroom is gorgeous! I really must try this quiz – I hope I’ll be quirky cool too, but I suspect disorganised mess might fit the bill more accurately!
Don’t worry, I don’t think they have a ‘Disorganised Mess’. Even so, I don’t like things to look too neat. Messes are deffo more interesting! 🙂
That looks great hun. I did this too and got Towie Glamour! x
Wow what a difference! Love the retro feel. That colour green is amazing!
Love the green tiles and your funky bathmat. We had our downstairs shower room done up recently and I’m still searching for some bits for that – we went red and white so I am looking out for red accessories!
I love your green tiles, and the bathmat sets them off perfectly – definitely quirky cool! I love houses with strong colour, but am a bit nervous about going there myself after I made some disastrous decisions with our first house!
I LOVE the green tiles in your new bathroom – the seventies were so brown…. I did the #GreatBritishHomeChallenge too and got glamorous!
I think that the green of the tiles and the jazzy colours on the mat really make your bathroom look fresh and contemporary!!
It looks lovely! I just took the quiz and got Glamourous.. which is about as far from my actual home as possible!
I came out Quirky Cool too… interesting. I like your rug a LOT!
I would never have said that about you from reading your blog. 😉
Thanks! I did initially worry that the colour might not work in a bathroom, but am now pleased.
Have you tried M&S? I was surprised at their range of cool bathmats and homewares.
In our old house, I feel like I used too much colour in some rooms and not enough in others. I’m trying to be a bit more cohesive in this house. Don’t be nervous, go for it!
Thanks! I love looking at before and after pics too!
Thanks! I got it from M&S.
haha maybe you are dying to have a glamorous home.
Thanks! I do like jazzy colours–cheers me up!
Better than decorating, is the research and thinking of decorating. 🙂
